CHECK THE CALORIES.
Find the energy information on the bag or manufacturer's website, ideally in kcal/kg.
Example: 3,600 kcal/kg.

COMPARE THE ENERGY COST.
Multiply bag weight in kg by kcal/kg. Divide the price by that total, then multiply by 1,000.
$80 ÷ 36,000 × 1,000 = about $2.22 per 1,000 kcal.

ESTIMATE DAILY COST.
Multiply the cost per 1,000 kcal by your dog's estimated daily calorie needs, divided by 1,000.
At 900 kcal/day: $2.22 × 0.9 = about $2.00/day.
