Bring your bag. Let's compare. We'll help you weigh price, recipe, and your dog's needs.

Prices supplied November 5, 2026; verify before publishing. Regular prices before tax or shipping. Bag weights and calorie densities differ. Weight-management foods are not necessarily interchangeable. Review feeding directions and consult your veterinarian when appropriate.

THE PURPLE ADVANTAGE

Different nutrition. Different needs.

Both recipes are designed for adult dogs, but their nutritional profiles aren't identical. Here's what the numbers tell us.

WANT TO COMPARE THE NUTRITION?

Guaranteed Analysis

Nutritional guarantees published for each recipe.

NUTRIENT NUTRISOURCE HILL'S
Protein (min.) 27.0% 20.0%
Fat (min.) 9.0% 5.5%
Fiber (max.) 17.5% 14.0%
Moisture (max.) 10.0% 10.55%
Calories per cup 341 kcal 243 kcal

What does that mean for your dog?

NutriSource Weight Management has higher guaranteed minimum protein and fat percentages, and a higher maximum fiber percentage.

Hill's Science Diet Adult Light provides fewer calories per cup, with lower guaranteed minimum fat and protein percentages.

Neither approach is automatically better for every dog. Calorie needs, activity, body condition, and feeding amounts all matter.

NO FUZZY MATH. Lower cost per pound doesn't necessarily mean lower cost per day. These foods have different calorie densities, so feeding quantities may differ.

Guaranteed Analysis values are minimums or maximums, not actual measured averages. Calories per cup are manufacturer or retailer-published values and depend on the volume and density of each kibble. Review current packaging and feeding guidelines. Consult your veterinarian when planning weight loss or changing a medically recommended diet.

THE PURPLE ADVANTAGE

A different recipe. A BETR value.

Take a closer look at what's inside the bag.

WANT TO COMPARE THE INGREDIENTS?

It starts with the ingredients.

The first five ingredients in each recipe, listed in label order. Flags identify considerations worth understanding, not safety ratings.

POSITION NUTRISOURCE HILL'S
1 Chicken Chicken meal
2 Chicken meal Cracked pearled barley
3 Pea fiber Whole grain wheat
4 Brown rice Whole grain corn
5 Barley Corn protein meal

YELLOW FLAG: FRESH CHICKEN

Fresh chicken contains substantial moisture when ingredients are weighed. That moisture contributes to its position on the ingredient list. Chicken meal has already had much of its water removed.

What it means for your dog: Fresh chicken can be a valuable ingredient, but first position doesn't necessarily mean it supplies the most animal protein. NutriSource also lists chicken meal as its second ingredient.

RED FLAG: CORN PROTEIN MEAL

Corn protein meal is a concentrated plant-protein ingredient derived from corn. It contributes protein to a recipe's total nutritional analysis, alongside other protein sources.

What it means for your dog: Plant proteins can contribute useful nutrients, but they have different amino acid profiles from animal proteins. At betrbowl, we prefer recipes emphasizing clearly identified animal-protein ingredients. Corn protein meal is not inherently harmful or nutritionally inadequate.

What does that mean for your bowl?

NutriSource starts with chicken and chicken meal, followed by fiber and grain ingredients. Hill's starts with chicken meal and includes several grain ingredients and concentrated corn protein.

Both recipes are formulated for adult maintenance. Their ingredients and nutritional profiles differ, and the first five ingredients alone cannot establish which food is best for your dog.

Our take? Understanding those differences helps you make a BETR choice. NutriSource also offers a lower bag price and lower price per pound. For weight management, compare feeding amounts and calorie needs before deciding.

Ingredient lists reflect published product information and should be confirmed against current packaging. Yellow and red flags represent educational considerations and betrbowl's ingredient preferences, not evidence that an ingredient is unsafe or that one recipe is nutritionally superior.
